“We just do not think of our daughter as being deaf anymore!”

  • Alabama is now testing over 95% of all newborns for hearing loss as a result of AEI leadership in developing the Alabama Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program!
  • The Alabama School for Hearing is the first Auditory/Oral Pre-school in the state of Alabama teaching children with hearing loss the skills to develop spoken language and reading!
  • A ten month old child hears the sound of her mother’s voice for the first time!
  • A second grader who is profoundly deaf scores the second highest in her class for reading achievement!
  • Over 1200 professionals have received training through our Auditory-Verbal Mentoring Program (30 different states, Canada & Argentina)!
  • Senior citizens in Jefferson County, Alabama now are experiencing the joy of hearing their grandchildren as a result of hearing aids provided by the AEIHEAR 4U program!
  • Individuals with hearing loss in Alabama now receive notification of extreme weather alerts as are result radios provided by the AEI Weather Radio Program!

These are just a few of the ways the Alabama Ear Institute has been able to provide services to individuals with hearing loss and their families.
