AEI Summer Institute

The 7th Annual AEI Summer Institute in Spoken Language Development

“Spoken Language Development in the Classroom”
    July 12-16, 2010

    Birmingham, AL

The Alabama Ear Institute is proud to host our 7th Annual Summer Institute. For 2010 we are implementing a new approach in response to requests from educational professionals. The increasing number of families choosing a spoken language approach for their children with hearing loss is resulting in a growing number of these children attending local school systems. This new one-week format is designed to address the growing concerns and needs of educational professionals who provide services to children with hearing loss in an educational setting.

Training will incorporate methods and techniques of both Auditory-Verbal Therapy and Auditory Oral methods of spoken language development and instruction. Emphasis will focus on the needs of the classroom teacher, speech-language pathologist and audiologist.

Faculty will present workshops on Auditory Function Applications, Spoken Language Applications and the Management of Hearing Technology. Additional sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to develop skills and techniques they can incorporate in their classrooms, small groups and therapy sessions. Observation of pre-school classroom instruction at the Alabama School for Hearing will provide a hands-on opportunity to observe applications in the classroom setting.
